Why I Photograph Weddings

Eight years ago, my life hit pause. I was working a 9–5 as an accountant with a steady, structured, and totally unfulfilling job, when a cancer diagnosis forced me to re-evaluate everything. I’d always had a camera in my hands, but I’d never considered photography a “real” career. I used to DJ at weddings while studying, and I loved the energy of those days! The nerves, the joy, the families and I loved photographing fast past events (Sports and Wildlife). It clicked: I don’t just love taking photos. I love preserving once-in-a-lifetime moments for people who’ll treasure them forever.

That’s why I’m a wedding photographer. Because this work matters.

My Approach: Natural, Authentic, Professional

If I had to sum up my style in three words: natural, authentic, professional.

Professional doesn’t mean stiff, I’m warm and relaxed on the day, but it does mean you can count on me. My corporate background shows up in the way I communicate, plan, and deliver. Timelines, logistics, family dynamics… I’m calm and prepared so you can be present.

I don’t chase trends or heavy edits. Twenty years from now, I want you to still love your photos and not wonder why everything looks brown or skew (don't get me started on the latest trends or I won't stop). I prefer a lighter feel, true-to-life color, and gentle guidance that keeps you moving and connected rather than frozen in poses. My job is to notice the real you and the real moments, then get out of the way so that you can enjoy your day!

The “Decisive Moment” (And How Sport & Wildlife Taught Me Weddings)

Before weddings, I photographed sport and wildlife. It taught me something priceless: you don’t get do-overs. Miss the lion’s yawn or the winning try and it’s gone. Weddings are the same. No one repeats a first kiss or the split-second when the groom’s eyes fill with tears. That’s why I shoot with focus and anticipation! I read body language, watch light and I stay one step ahead, so the moments you’ll relive for decades are captured beautifully, once.

For Camera-Shy Couples (Hi, You are My People)

Most of my couples describe themselves (or at least one in the couple) as awkward in front of a camera. Perfect. I build the experience for you. At the start, I won’t pose you. We’ll walk, talk, breathe, and let you get used to the sound of the shutter. I’ll offer simple, natural prompts and my favorite is: “Okay, now pretend that you are married.” It loosens shoulders, sparks a smile, and suddenly you’re just you again.

More often than not, couples thank me before the first preview!! Because the day felt calm, natural, and cared for. That matters to me. Feeling supported and understood is the foundation for images that feel like you.

Smaller, Relaxed Weddings in the Western Cape

I’m an introvert, and I thrive in intimate celebrations. Smaller weddings mean less performance and more enjoying the moment. I can be more involved when you need support and invisible when a moment needs space. The Western Cape is home, and I love how diverse it is! Forests, vineyards, mountains, and wind-kissed stretches of water. Whatever your setting, my goal is the same: keep the day calm, capture the good light, and make room for real moments.

Let’s Start the Journey

Memories Worth Everything

Hybrid: Photo + Video, Seamlessly

I specialise in hybrid coverage—capturing both photographs and key video moments. It keeps your vendor team lean and your storytelling cohesive. You can view a full blog post on hybrid photography here

How I Work On the Day

I stay present and read the room. Sometimes you’ll need a little direction; other times you won’t want to know I’m there. I’ll help shape the timeline beforehand so there’s margin for life to happen, because it will. Dresses take longer, speeches run over, wind picks up. Build in buffer time and your stress drops by half.

What You’ll Receive

I don’t believe in arbitrary minimums or caps. I deliver every image that meets my quality standard, typically ±80–150 photos per hour of coverage. The full gallery arrives via an online link that you can share with loved ones anywhere in the world.

Because I know you’ll be excited to share, I send a sneak peek the day after your wedding. The full gallery is delivered 6–8 weeks later. Even when I finish earlier, I’ve learned a little space after the day makes the viewing experience more special. You’ve had time to exhale and then you get to relive it all with fresh eyes.

What I Value (And How It Shows Up)

Value: I’ll help wherever I can if it is pinning boutonnieres, calming nerves, or rearranging a room for better light.

Timelessness: No heavy trends; clean, true-to-colour editing you’ll love in 20 years.

Presence: Your day isn’t a photo shoot. It’s your wedding. I’ll protect that.

Care: You’re never just “another booking.” I’m here for the emails, the timeline adjustments, and the “is this normal?” voice notes.

Life Outside Weddings (The Why Behind the Calm)

When I’m not working, I’m with my family and usually outside. We hike, we breathe mountain air, and we spend slow days in game reserves. Nature has a way of resetting your pace and sharpening your eye. It’s also why, on a wedding day, I’m patient. I wait for the wind to soften a veil. I notice when you squeeze each other’s hands. I care about the tiny, quiet moments you might miss in the rush like the deep breath before walking down the aisle, your mom’s proud smile when no one’s looking, the way your friends laugh with their whole bodies.

What I Wish Brides Knew

You can let the small things go. Truly. The story is bigger than the weather, the napkin colour, or whether a button popped. If you plan well and build buffer time, you’ll have the freedom to enjoy what actually matters: promising your life to your favourite person and celebrating with your people.

I practice what I preach

I know being in front of a camera can feel stressful and awkward, most of my couples say the same. That’s exactly why, before every wedding season, I book myself on the other side of the lens. I practice what I ask you to do so I remember how exposed it can feel and what actually helps: simple movement instead of stiff poses, pockets for your hands, natural prompts, where to look, when to breathe, and when to pause. Those sessions keep me empathetic and practical; they refine the gentle guidance I use on your day so you feel safe, seen, and never over-posed! Just the real you, together.

And Yes! I have a lucky formal Blue Shirt that I use on most weddings and shoots!

My Promise To You

I’ll show up prepared, calm, and kind. I’ll notice the moments that matter and the in-between ones you didn’t realise you’d want. I’ll keep things simple, natural, and timeless so your photos feel like you and not like a trend.

If that sounds like the experience you want, I’d love to hear about your plans and see if we’re a good fit.

Next steps:

• Tell me your date, venue/location, guest count (roughly), and what kind of coverage you’re dreaming of.

• If you’re camera-shy, say so! I’ll shape the experience for you and recommend an engagement session to ease you into the process.

• Ready to chat? Enquire via my contact page or send a DM, and we’ll start with a relaxed call.
